Update on the Goldfish

The comet goldfish (Jesse and Sam) had to be separated from Baby Ballooga, a black moor, when it was discovered that the comets were eating the moor's tail off!!! When I moved Baby to a new tank, then the big bad comets started picking on the two otocincluses in the tank. So I moved them in with Baby and all seems much less stressful for all involved. The otos are happy and thriving, Baby's tail is all healed and grown back, and the comets' new tankmate is a big spotted pleco named Cheeta.

Also, Sam is turning all white. He was originally white with large gold spots, but the gold is getting smaller and fading. Originally, Jesse was gold with black spots including a black moustache-like spot, but within a few months, the black spots faded away and he is a very handsome all gold fish. Sam's color change is happening almost a year later. But he is still very beautiful with sparkly fishy scales and blue eyes.

Hopefully, Cheeta will be able to hold her own in the tank with the goldfish.

The fry are healthy and much larger

Although the platy fry are about 10 months old, they still are not as large as the parents. Most of the fry look like their father (a sunset) but two look like their momma (red mickey mouse) and they are all thriving.

Sadly, their momma passed on this month. She was healthy until a month ago, and slowly started losing weight. It almost appeared as though she was shrinking. It was a sad day when I had to dip her out of the tank just a few days before Mother's Day ;(
